Karolina Majewska-Güde

Karolina Majewska-Güde is an independent researcher, art critic and curator. She graduated with a degree in Art History from Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań and in Visual Histories from Goldsmith College. Her research interests are the Eastern European neo-avant-garde, performance art, contemporary issues of circulation, translation and production of knowledges through art-based research, which are framed within a methodology of transnational and feminist art history.

She has recently submitted her doctoral dissertation at the Institute of Art and Visual History at Humboldt University on Ewa Partum’s artistic practice and she curated an exhibition about Galeria Adres run by Ewa Partum in Lodz from 1972 to 1977, that opens in March 2019 at the Galeria Studio in Warsaw.

In 2015, she co-curated with Dorota Walentynowicz an exhibition and lecture series at Poznan’s pf gallery: Techniques of Release, presenting photographic and video works of neo-avant-garde artists (Tomislav Gotovac, Ewa Partum, Dora Maurer, Lynn Hershman Leeson, Annegret Soltau, Suzy Lake) in a dialog with recent works by Ann Collier, Verena Dengler, Jakob Lena Knebl, Salvatore Viviano, Mathilde ter Hejne, and Marina Faust, among others. She also co-authored and co-edited the catalogue from this series. Majewska-Güde is a member of the curatorial collective pisze/mówi/robi devoted to curating talks, exhibitions (with Antje Majewski, Olga Lewicka, Tiong Ang, Dorota Nieznalska, Krzysztof Topolski, and Amirali Ghasemi, among others) and designing and conducting workshops focused on artistic knowledge production and translations of artistic archives. She lives and works in Berlin.
