Poema Colectivo 2020

In the spirit of collectivity despite geographical distance, post invites your contributions to create a "collective poem" for our moment based on the 1981 project Poema Colectivo Revolución by the artists’ group Colectivo 3. The Mexico City-based group sent sheets of paper with blank space to members of an international mail art network, inviting responses to the theme of revolution. In 1981, the results were mailed back to Colectivo 3 from forty-five countries.

Today, as localities around the world are affected by the global spread of COVID-19, we welcome your contributions, thereby enacting the contemporary possibilities of international collaboration in the absence of proximity and travel.

To add your contributions in text, image, or video, please fill out the PDF below and share it with us by email contact_c-map@moma.org; mention us on twitter @postatmoma; or share on instagram with #PoemaColectivo2020 and tagging MoMA. Check back here and on social media as our international network weighs in.

For people like me , who get easily influenced by the opinions of others, the mere act of rationalizing our thoughts is a revolution. When our eyes and ears are controlled by others, can we trust what we see and what we hear?

World outlook 1 01

Yaksh Verma

World Outlook:: A system of idea of the objective world and a person’s place in it, of a person’s attitude towards surrounding reality and to himself, and also corresponding points of view shared by the people, their convictions, ideas, principles of cognition and activity and value orientation, In reality, the subject of world outlook is a social group and an individual. World outlook is the core of social and individual consciousness. The development of world outlook is significant indication of maturity not only of an individual, but also of a definite social group, social class, and its party. World outlook is the reflection, general notion of the world, man, society, and value attitude towards them, which determines, atheist (or religious), moral aesthetic, and scientific orientation of a person. As a method of cognising reality, world outlook includes also vital principles which determine the nature of people’s activity.

An important component of world outlook are ideals as crucial life goals. The content of consciousness turns into a world outlook when it acquires the character of convictions. World outlook is of enormous practical importance in life. It influences norms of behaviour, a person’s attitude to work, to other people, the nature of this life aspirations, his daily life, tastes, interests.

I hope things will change soon for good and we all will have much more clear vision of world’s outlook.

The Revolution Colors

Isaac Furtado

The revolution can be blue. Like a Van Gogh sky. Can be a sweet lagoon. Tender like a distant swallow. Or just a rusty nail waiting for you.

The revolution can be red. A bloody midday sunday. A deadly virus pandemic. But, every drop has a trail, one guilty, one corrupt.

The revolution can be pink. Like a floral bouquet. It can be without hatred. In your veins, just serenity and art of the color you prefer.

America

Mami Takahashi

As a recent immigrant and non-native English user, I have been thinking about the meaning of "American". I've seen everyone singing the national anthem at the baseball game I went (first time in the U.S.), and noticed that everyone knew how to sing it. When I came home, I practiced it, but not able to sing it correctly- too heavy accent, too new song for me- am I American? Do other "American" consider me as American if I cannot sing the song properly?

I sang the national anthem loudly at home and let the "speak-to-text" function on my laptop to write what I sang. This poem is my word for "America".

Sérgio Leitão (b. 1971, Monte Estoril) is an artist whose work is based on contextual mixed media installations, crossing sculpture, painting and video, frequently including multiple projections with sculptural and graphic elements but also autonomous pieces in several media, sculptural interventions in public spaces, as well as performances. He has been approaching issues that explore connections between several fields of knowledge, from art and architecture, to literature, philosophy and history, among other territories. His work O CONFINADO _ THE CONFINED MAN _ DER EINGESPERRTE MANN (2020) was filmed in the outskirts of Vienna and presents us with an interrupted plot that deals with our current times. We ask ourselves: Who is this man? What is he doing there? Did he built the house himself? If so, why? For what purpose? What is happening? What happened before? What will happen next? It is up to the viewer to find out as the narrative is laid open.
