May Castleberry is editor of a series of artist’s books published by the Library Council of The Museum of Modern Art. Over the past fifteen years at MoMA she has edited and produced publications by artists Beatriz Milhazes, Vija Celmins, Olafur Eliasson, R.H. Quaytman, Guillermo Kuitca, and others. The current project, called "The Valise,” brings together seven South American artists and the Argentine writer César Aira. The artists—Johanna Calle, Mateo López, and Nicolás Paris, from Bogotá; Matías Duville, from Buenos Aires; Christian Vinck, originally from Venezuela, now residing in Santiago de Chile; and Maria Laet and Rosângela Rennó, from Rio de Janeiro share an affinity for geography, travel literature, and book-making. They are contributing printed maps, artist’s books, and pamphlets, and other objects to The Valise, to accompany a copy of Aira’s Un episodio en la vida del pintor viajero.
