Krzysztof Penderecki (born 1933) is one of the most outstanding Polish composers of contemporary music. From the mid 1970s considered a representative of the New Romanticism in music, earlier – one of the leading exponents of the Avant-garde “Polish School”. The most innovative, sonoristic instrumental pieces of Penderecki like Threnody to the Victims of Hiroshima and Polymorphia, were inspired by his practice in the field of electronic music. Penderecki’s collaboration with Polish Radio Experimental Studio, which dates back to the 1960s and early 1970s, resulted in composing four autonomous pieces and a wide selection of film and theatre music.
